An Ottawa Wedding Story | Diana + Todd

A wedding photograph in the winter in ottawa

We photographed and live streamed Diana and Todd’s wedding in March of this year. Covid-19 restrictions were in effect, but they didn’t get this couple down at all. They made the most of what they were allowed to do and had a fantastic ceremony and reception.

Here are some thoughts from Diana:

——

Having a wedding during covid was not our first choice for sure. However it did allow us to actually incorporate just the things we wanted to do without any outside pressure.

When we first got engaged we saw many venues, which were not us. We wanted something unique, easy and fun. We both never pictured a huge white wedding with speeches and father daughter dances or any of it. We really wanted to tell the world how much we meant to each other and party afterwards. Our covid wedding, although the party was much smaller and outside, did allow us to do just that. We had our closest family and friends join us for a quick and easy ceremony in our local park, then back to our backyard for the party.

We were lucky that our wedding did allow for groups of 25 people at a time. Which had us split the day into two groups: family for the ceremony and friends for the afterparty. (best of both worlds) In addition we streamed the ceremony for all the family and friends who were not able to attend. This made it easy for family all over the world not to feel guilty for missing it. During covid the last thing you want to do is make people feel uncomfortable coming, the live stream made it much easier for everyone to feel included. We even had last minute changes with friends and family feeling ill and unable to attend in person, the live stream really helped everyone feel included and safe.

If you asked either of us what we were going to look forward to the most on our wedding day, it would likely be the party. However, looking back the best part was my husband's vows. With such a small group at the ceremony, it felt relaxed and made me less nervous to walk down the aisle. We got to be ourselves with no formalities. We got to laugh with each other, smile, cry and just actually enjoy this very intimate experience.

We had our ceremony outside at a park in the middle of March. If you can imagine the weather is very unpredictable, meaning we wanted to keep the ceremony as short as possible so people did not freeze. Todd's favourite part was still the party. Having a smaller group it allowed him to actually spend time with every guest.

The entire day ended up being exactly what we wanted, spending time with our closest family and friends, celebrating our love exactly how we would want to. It was also a huge budget saver!
