A Rustic Barn Wedding
SARA + DAN
Dan and I first met over 5 years ago in my hometown of North Bay, where Dan was attending school at Canadore College and I was working full time. We were neighbours and were introduced through our roommates, who happened to be friends. There was an instant connection when we first met, and have been together ever since.
I was never expecting a proposal. We have a daughter who was born in January of 2014, and when it didn't happen then, I just kind of let it go. Instead focusing on enjoying our lives together. But then, on September 26th 2015, Dan surprised me and set up the most beautiful proposal. It was like something straight out of a movie. It was Carp Fair weekend and our friends were over at the house. The girls and I were upstairs getting ready when Dan came up and told me to go out the patio door, that he had a surprise for me. Well right then my heart started pounding. I go downstairs through the patio doors, and on the patio table, is a bouquet of sunflowers sitting next to a lantern. I walk down the patio stairs, and turn the corner to see beautiful lights strung up everywhere. Standing there in front of one of our barns, was Dan, under a beautiful archway he built. I broke down crying on my way walking towards him because I couldn't believe it was finally happening. When I finally made it to him, he got down on one knee, and asked me to be his wife. Our friends were there to see it all happen, while Dan and I shared a beautiful dance together, with the song “Crazy Girl" by the Eli Young Band playing the in the background, a song that has been special to Dan and I since we first started dating.
We looked at a few venues but ultimately decided to have the wedding at our barn in Carp. Which, with the help of our amazing friends, we were able to have renovated in time for our big day. The day started with the guys doing a bit of (skeet) shooting of their own. Britt was more then happy when they offered her a turn, and definitely impressed them by hitting the disk in her first shot. The girls and I spent the morning watching weather reports, which were calling for a tornado warning. But nothing, not even the possibility of a tornado, was going to stop us from having a good time!
We got married under the same arch that Dan proposed under, which was such a special touch to our day. It was so awesome to have the wedding in our own backyard, and made it that much more meaningful to us. The day was perfect we had such a blast! Celebrating with our family and friends, and having Brittany there to capture it, was just amazing! She is so easy to get along with, and made us both feel completely comfortable in front of the camera. When I originally saw her portfolio, I just knew we had to have her for our wedding. Photos are the one thing you can look back on, and I absolutely love the way ours turned out! I knew I wanted someone who could capture the moments in a way that could help me remember how the day felt, and that's exactly what Brittany did.
